Beyond Four Years

THON's Mission and the fight against childhood cancer doesn't stop after graduation. DMAIG is committed to providing lasting impact to THON Student Volunteers, Four Diamonds Families, and Penn State Alumni.  DMAIG members and supporters carry on the fight bringing DMAIG's and THON's Mission across the country and the world. Below are some of the major impacts DMAIG has been able to support to champion the efforts of THON.
The DMAIG Mosaic
The DMAIG Mosaic is a photo mosaic built by the Dance Marathon Alumni Interest Group. Proceeds from the mosaic will benefit Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) and their efforts to conquer childhood cancer. The mosaic is made up of photos submitted by THON supporters who donate in exchange for being able to upload their photos to the interactive mosaic. The completed 10 ft by 8 ft mosaic will become a permanent part of the Penn State University Park campus and will be hung at the new THON Store at the HUB. Click here to view the online, interactive mosaic.
Rick Funk Leadership Award
For 10 years, Rick Funk served as the advisor to the Penn State Dance Marathon in his role as Coordinator of Greek Life. During that time period, the annual total dollars raised increased from $297,000 to more than $1 million. In 1993, he served as the President of the Association of Fraternity Advisors. Some of Rick's favorite THON memories include being at the first THON to raise $1 million in a year (THON 1992), working with the first female Overall Chairperson, and dancing (and actually surviving) 48 hours in THON 1997 as part of the first alumni couple.

The Rick Funk Leadership Award was established in 1996 and endowed at Penn State by DMAIG to honor Rick for his ten years of leadership, commitment, and service to THON. The award serves as an opportunity for THON alumni to support the exceptional undergraduate THON volunteers who work year-round for the organization.

Consideration for this award is given to full-time undergraduate students of at least 6th semester standing who have participated in any capacity within THON. The award seeks to recognize a student who has demonstrated commitment, loyalty, leadership, and the ability to motivate other students through their involvement. Nominations are accepted in the fall each year. Current THON Executive Committee members are not eligible to receive the award.
