With thanks to all of our incredible fundraisers, we congratulate this year’s dancer who will represent DMAIG at THON 2017! This year’s dancer couples are…
Stephanie Wittig and Amanda Unger
Ashley Edwards and Sarah Krisher
During this year’s fundraising season, our potential DMAIG dancers cumulatively raised over $45,000! We’re so incredibly proud of each and every dancer couple who vied for a spot this year, and we’re grateful for your hard work.
In the coming weeks, check back here for information about how to write them a dancer letter or two. We’ll also post their dancer numbers so you can find them on the floor and and cheer them on as our alumni THON dancer representatives.
A note from Race Director and Penn State Alum, Mike Carroll:
The 2016 Dance Marathon Alumni Interest Group Fundraiser of the Year Winning Fairfax 5K is closing out our 2016 event and already gearing up for 2017!
The second annual Fairfax 5K was a huge success and we more than quintupled our donation to THON this year with a donation of $11,500 – FOR THE KIDS! Thank you to all who helped to support our 2016 event!
We will begin planning for our third year after THON 2017 concludes in what is sure to be an amazing event on September 23, 2017 (save the date now!). The successes of the first two years would not have been possible if it weren’t for the dozens of volunteers that helped to make it such an amazing event, and we could use your help again this year!
We are looking for volunteers to assist with the planning and organizational aspects of the event beginning in a few weeks. Whether you live near to Fairfax, Virginia or anywhere else in the world if you have a computer, we need you!
Positions currently open for volunteers:
– Webmaster / Web designer
– Social Media Support
– Corporate Solicitations
– Local Business Solicitations
and…. we’ll need 20+ volunteers on the day-of to help manage the event!
If you wish to help out with the event in 2017 or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org!
If you miss writing out THONvelopes and decorating Kids Mail, or just want to brighten someone’s day, we have a brand new opportunity for you!
The Hershey Kids Mail Drive is requesting store-bought cards with personal messages of inspiration for children at Penn State Children’s Hospital during THON weekend.
Please send cards to 227D HUB-Robeson Center, State College, PA 16801, before January 27. This initiative will help bring inspiration to kids receiving their treatment at Hershey who cannot attend THON 2017.
Not sure what to write? Suggestions from THON include positive and uplifting messages, inspirational quotes or song lyrics, and “thinking of you” messaging.
Be sure NOT to include the following: mentioning of holidays, THON weekend, illness/being sick, or messages like “Keep fighting!” We want these kids to forget about getting treatment and just let them be kids.
If you have any questions, send a message to THON’s Alumni Campaigns Coordinator, James Costalas at email@example.com.
Did you know that DMAIG gives out two awards every year to THON Alumni? At our THON Weekend reception on February 18th, we will be presenting awards to the Volunteer of the Year and Fundraiser of the Year. These awards were created to recognize the immense amount of time and effort alumni continue to dedicate to THON and the Four Diamonds Fund, and to highlight the winners’ accomplishments.
Most of us have stayed connected to the cause, either directly or indirectly and know people who have truly made it their mission to continue to fight pediatric cancer. We ask that you consider nominating a friend, colleague and/or organization that you know continues to support THON and the Four Diamonds Fund in their post-college lives. The process is very quick and in a few minutes – you can nominate someone by clicking here.
If you have any additional questions about the DMAIG awards, THON Weekend events or the DMAIG reception itself, please email THON Weekend Director Shannon Holzer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This year, DMAIG will be holding our annual reception from 5:00-7:00 pm on Saturday, February 18th at Hintz Hall on Penn State’s University Park campus.
A variety of food and beverages will be provided, including local beer and wine, and we will have several speakers, awards, and raffle drawings throughout the night. We encourage all THON Alumni to stop by and mingle!
The event is free to attend and the dress code is casual. In lieu of an entrance fee, please consider bringing a monetary donation to benefit the Rick Funk Memorial Scholarship. Please RSVP here.
Questions can be directed to the THON Weekend Events Director, Shannon Holzer, at email@example.com.
