Announcement: Children's Hospital Ranked Among Nation's Best
Submitted by Technology on Tue, 06/05/2012Provided by Suzanne Graney, Director of The Four Diamonds Fund
It is with great pleasure we share with you today the exciting news that our Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital has once again earned a ranking among the nation's best children's hospitals in multiple specialties. This year, the Children's Hospital is ranked in orthopaedics (for the second straight year), cancer, and diabetes and endocrinology.
This news serves to affirm for members of the Penn State Hershey community both the quality of the care and the quality of the caring that happens at our Children's Hospital every day. The daily commitment so many people make to provide vital services to the children and families of our community is what makes recognition like this possible.
And so this honor belongs to each one of you — our faculty and staff, our students, our volunteers, our friends, and our supporters. We hope you will join us on June 28 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the courtyard for a celebration of this achievement.
On behalf of the children and families we serve, thank you and congratulations.

Virtual Hope Express - September 15th
Submitted by Technology on Sat, 05/19/2012On September 15, 2012 runners from all across the country will run in the first annual virtual Hope Express – For The Kids.
How can I form my own team?
Email VirtualHE@thehopeexpress.org to register a team. We will get you set up. Get your friends and family, then come up with a plan on how you can cover 135 miles as a team – this is the distance the Hope Express team runs every Feb going from the Hershey Medical Center to Penn State/THON. Team captains decide how to accomplish these miles based on their participants. It can be 135 runners each running/walking 1 mile or 14 runners each running ten miles – like the regular Hope Express team – or any combination between these examples. We are relying on each team captain to make each individual event both unique and successful.
Why September 15?
The Hope express now entering its 7th year wanted to have a date that signified the significance of what our charity is all about. The founders, Connie and Hank Angus felt that Sept 15th was the perfect day because it was on Sept 15th ,2004 that their son Gabriel was diagnosed with leukemia. To date the Hope Express has raised more than $150,000 for the Four Diamonds Fund in Hershey, Pa.

The memorial tree planting and plaque dedication will be held in conjunction with Sigma Delta Tau’s annual Parents Weekend and will precede a brunch at Toftrees Resort and Conference Center, which starts at 11:30 AM. In attendance will be members of Penn State’s Sigma Delta Tau chapter and their parents, including Courtney’s parents, Lisa and Nick Brigandi and Bill and Diane O’Bryan. A representative from Sigma Delta Tau national offices and representatives from Penn State”s Office of Student Affairs will be on hand for the dedication. Representatives from several PSU Alumni Association chapters have been invited to participate.
Newly appointed 2013 THON Overall Chair, Will Martin, and Elaine Tanella, 2012 THON Overall Chair will speak at the ceremony and plan to announce changes in THON canning policies that will be implemented this year.
Courtney O’Bryan, of Huntingdon NY, and several members of Sigma Delta Tau and Kappa Delta Rho fraternity were injured on a THON canning trip to the Buffalo area when their car hit ice and flipped over. THON is a student run philanthropy that raises money for The Four Diamonds Fund, an organization that supports pediatric cancer patients and their families. This year’s THON total was over $10.8 million dollars.
