About The Liberty Ball
The Liberty Ball, A Knight for the Kids, is an annual black-tie-optional event hosted by the Philadelphia Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association, in partnership with the Montgomery County Chapter, to raise money for the Four Diamonds Fund, which is the sole beneficiary of the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON). The mission of THON is to conquer pediatric cancer by providing outstanding emotional and financial support to the children, families, researchers, and staff of The Four Diamonds Fund, at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA. Learn more about our beneficiaries here.
In an effort to continue fundraising support after graduation, members of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association came together in 2005 to host the first Liberty Ball, held at the Philadelphia Union League. The title The Liberty Ball was inspired by an icon of the Philadelphia community: the Liberty Bell. Our theme, A Knight for the Kids, was born from reflection of Christopher Millard’s remarkable story of Sir Millard’s quest for the four diamonds of courage, wisdom, honesty, and strength. The four diamonds represent the four elements necessary to battle cancer. It was this story that inspired the foundation of The Four Diamonds Fund. With much success, the Liberty Ball continues year after year, contributing over $70,000 to THON and The Four Diamonds Fund.
2013 Annual Dance Marathon AIG Newsletter
Submitted by Technology on Thu, 01/31/2013Support our Dancers: Send Them Dancer Mail!
Submitted by Technology on Thu, 01/31/2013THON 2012 was a great success, not only for the students fundraising For The Kids, but also for DMAIG's alumni dancer couples. We proudly supported four dancers who represented THON alumni: Caity Rogowski, Jaci Mayer, Max Thompson, and Christopher Barrella. They stood strong for 46 hours For The Kids, and we applaud their accomplishments, along with the efforts of the other competing alumni who raised funds for The Four Diamonds Fund.
We’re proud to announce our dancers for THON 2013! Stacy Bingler-Forbes, Jeff Krisciunas, Brandon Dalton and Trevin Dear have all been selected to dance on behalf of THON alumni, and we congratulate them on their amazing fundraising efforts. Combined, these two dancer couples raised over 39,000! We had 11 additional alumni couples compete to raise money and we thank all our alumni couples for their wonderful fundraising and contributions this fundraising season.
Please help us support this year's dancers by sending dancer mail and letters of encouragement for them to read during THON weekend. You may send dancer mail to THON, 327 HUB, University Park, PA 16802 (postmarked by February 5), and please cheer them on during THON weekend from the stands. Please keep an eye out for their dancer numbers: Stacy (303A), Jeff (303B), Brandon (307A), and Trevin (307B). Again, we thank these four individuals for their amazing fundraising efforts, and look forward to seeing them out on the dance floor!
IST Alumni Society THON Event - February 7th
Submitted by Technology on Mon, 01/28/2013Please join the IST Alumni Society's THON subcommittee, the society's newest, in its first ever event: a happy hour benefiting IST THON at Arlington, Virginia's Carpool on February 7th at 7pm. The event will be a social one, with a suggested donation of $10. Come out, meet the Alumni Society, and a good time will be had by all.
The THON subcommittee will serve two roles at it evolves and grows. First, and foremost, it gives IST alumni of all ages a way to remain involved with the activities we miss so dearly back at Dear Old State. Second, in its position under the guidance of the fundraising chair, it will raise money that goes directly to IST's students who work so hard to support THON and the group's THON family, the Murphy's. The subcommittee remains in various stages of creation and is looking for any and all who are interested in helping out. If that describes you, please email Colleen Cwenar at colleen.cwenar@gmail.com and she'll get you on your way!
For the Kids, For the Murphy's, For the Glory!
